I have cut and sawn out copper plates to make the indentation a meaningful embossing. This creates at the same time a fragmentary and an object-like printed image. The object-like quality combined with the lightness of the gray aquatints overrides the laws of gravity. In the paper surface, anything is possible, could be possible. Here, François Jullien’s idea of actual existence and allegedly presence comes into play. In the way an absence can enhance presence, a locked-up view can set free imagination.
